Williams Center Green
Williams Center Green
A once vibrant area of downtown Tulsa, Williams Center Green is located between the Performing Arts Center and a high rise hotel. The 1.7 acre park had become unkempt and underutilized. The Downtown Rotary Club of Tulsa, was planning their club’s 100th year anniversary. As a service club, they wanted to honor the projects that they completed across the globe.
Alaback Design was engaged to work with Rotary and the artists to create a special place for the proposed
sculptures. The park was a perfect site selection. The Williams Center Green was the perfect location for redevelopment. Alaback Design created a destination for the park. Four sculptures representing the avenues of Rotary service. These bronze figures were placed in a circle that surrounded a 12 foot diameter bronze globe of the world. Low maintenance was critical to the design. We selected granite that was cut in a radius that circled the globe. The base of the globe doubles as a seating area and holds the lights that up light the sculpture. We also created a plaza for concerts and food vendors.
This Rotary gift spurred the Owner to redevelop the remainder of the park what was previously an underutilized park, it has become an active and well used area both during the day and evening.
